Marcía
- Vocalist
Marcía
(rhymes with Garcia) can't remember a time when she wasn't singing.
A product of the racially rich neighborhood on the northside of
Milwaukee where she grew up, Motown music was an early and strong
influence. Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and the Supremes
were some of the artists she would listen to over and over again.
She studied music at UW-Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Conservatory
of Music. As was a founding member of the jazz-funk group, Suntouch,
she toured extensively throughout the Midwest and Florida.
Living
in Chicago for the past 16 years, she has been working as a freelance
artist and has been featured in several "Local Vocal Brew"
showcases hosted by the well known Chicago vocalist, Wendy Morgan.
She's
thrilled to be exploring her soul roots singing in Grooveology.
"[Marcía's]
natural singing style is put to good use on tunes by Patti Austin,
Melissa Manchester, Stevie Wonder and Al Jarreau." - Bill Milkowski
Village Voice, Downbeat
"Marcía
has a serious Dinah Washington kind of thing going on....so sassy!"
- Deirdre Fellner Milwaukee diva and leader of "The Whole
of Soul"
